Information:
Rachel is a registered Psychologist and Research Fellow at the Centre for Disabilities Studies. Since 2001 she has worked in a range of roles supporting people with disabilities. These include: early intervention therapist, project officer, person centred planner, disability advisor, trainer, researcher, consultant, and psychologist in private practice. Originally training as an ABA therapist and later, as a person centred planner, Rachel has extensive experience working with families, young children and ageing parents. She has delivered training in the area of person centred philosophy, with a particular focus on the practical application of person centred tools and using creativity to problem solve. Rachel is experienced in facilitating Essential Lifestyle Plans, PATH (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope) and Person Centred Profiles in various contexts, and continues to provide intensive training to NSW-based agencies. She also regularly uses person centred planning tools as part of the psychological consultation she provides through the NSW Health Developmental Disability Health Unit (DDHU). Using a person centred approach in the DDHU, Rachel combines CBT and narrative techniques with other creative measures. Rachel also currently holds a clinical position with the NSW branch of The Fragile X Association of Australia. As an associate member of PWD, Rachel is a keen advocate for the rights of people with disabilities. She is also passionate about protecting the rights of older people, particularly those in nursing care, and is keen to promote good mental health within this group.
